Karla Strachen is in charge of this year's Block of the Month Groups. Remember that all blocks MUST measure 12 1/2” (unless instructed otherwise).
At the August meeting, you will be asked if you would like to participate in the Block of the Month. The chairperson will organize those wanting to participate into groups. One group may be designatged easy, intermediate or advanced. The easy group will be asked to make blocks from simple patterns, no applique. Any method of piecing, applique or paper piecing is allowed in the intermediate group.
Every month, one person in each group will announce what they want all the other members in the group to make. For instance, a flower block in spring colors. The chairperson will keep track of who has turned in what blocks. All completed blocks are due by the July meeting and at the August meeting, all completed blocks will be handed out. If you sign up for this activity, please be prepared to participate all year. You will not be awarded your blocks until you have completed everyone else's blocks.
Remember, you have to make a block of your design, which will give you 12 blocks at the end of the year, when everyone has turned them in. If you have a pattern for a block, you need to make 11 copies of it and we will pass them out. If you have a particular fabric you want everyone to use, bring enough for 11 blocks. You can also just verbally request something for your block; for example - a 12 1/2" block made out of country reds and blues, or made out of flower fabric, etc. The standard size for the blocks is 12 1/2", but you can specify a different size if you prefer.
Please tape or pin your name on your blocks before you turn them in.
